Parent Counseling

Parenting can bring out our deepest hopes, worries, and childhood patterns. While it is incredibly meaningful, it can also feel overwhelming. At ClearMind, we offer emotion-focused parent counseling to support caregivers as they navigate daily challenges, major transitions, or the desire to parent more intentionally.

Dr. Cohen works directly with parents to help them understand their child’s emotional needs, respond more effectively to behavioral challenges, and feel more grounded in their role. Sessions may be weekly or as needed, and are tailored to each family’s unique dynamics.

This work is not about “fixing” you as a parent, it is about equipping you with practical tools you can use in real moments: when your child is melting down, when you’re trying to stay calm after a long day, or when nothing seems to be working. Therapy with a child once a week can be powerful, but when parents gain strategies to use every day, change happens faster and runs deeper.

You are the expert on your child. Dr. Cohen’s role is to come alongside you with insight, emotional support, and guidance. There’s no manual for parenting, and seeking support is not only okay, it’s courageous.

Parent counseling is offered exclusively by Dr. Cohen, and it remains one of her favorite areas of work because of the remarkable progress families make when parents are given the support they need.

  • Parent counseling sessions at ClearMind are collaborative, supportive, and tailored to the specific challenges you’re facing at home. Whether we meet weekly or as needed, sessions are a space for you to reflect, ask questions, gain insight, and walk away with actionable tools.

    You’ll have the opportunity to:

    • Talk openly about what's feeling difficult without judgment

    • Explore emotional patterns; yours and your child’s

    • Learn strategies to address behavioral challenges or emotional escalations

    • Develop language that helps you connect more meaningfully with your child

Sessions may include discussion, skill-building, and real-time problem-solving. Homework is never required, but you’ll often leave with ideas you can try right away. All of it is grounded in emotional attunement, developmental understanding, and your values as a parent.

  • Parent counseling can lead to powerful shifts; often more quickly than expected. While individual child therapy can be transformative, real change is accelerated when parents feel supported, informed, and confident in their own responses.

    This work can help you:

    • Reduce conflict and emotional reactivity at home

    • Strengthen your child’s sense of safety and connection

    • Feel more grounded and less overwhelmed in high-stress moments

    • Respond to difficult behaviors with clarity rather than confusion or guilt

    • Understand what’s behind the behaviors, not just what to do in the moment

When parents grow, families shift. You’re not just managing behavior, you’re building the emotional framework your child will carry into the rest of their life.

  • Parent counseling is for any caregiver who wants to feel more empowered, connected, and calm in their parenting. It’s especially helpful for parents navigating:

    • Emotional outbursts, meltdowns, or chronic dysregulation

    • Behavioral challenges (tantrums, defiance, bedtime struggles, etc.)

    • Transitions like divorce, relocation, or new siblings

    • Anxiety, school avoidance, or social stress in their child

    • Guilt, burnout, or self-doubt in their own parenting role

This service is ideal whether or not your child is in therapy themselves. In fact, many families begin with parent counseling before deciding on next steps for their child.
