Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is available with both Melony Cohen, PsyD and Alexa Winer, AMFT, and may occur weekly or biweekly depending on need. We support children, teens, and adults in navigating emotional challenges such as anxiety or worry, sadness, low self-esteem, academic stress, identity exploration, or behavioral concerns.

Sessions are tailored to each individual’s unique experience, offering a safe and supportive space to explore how emotional difficulties impact relationships, day-to-day functioning, and overall well-being. Our goal is to help you or your child gain insight, develop emotional resilience, and move forward with greater confidence.

  • Child–Parent Therapy is a powerful approach designed to strengthen the emotional bond between caregiver and child, build regulation skills, and restore a sense of calm and connection at home. At ClearMind, we support families in creating a more natural flow of communication, helping parents respond to big emotions with confidence and care.

Sessions typically involve both parent and child in the room—particularly for younger children—allowing us to gently observe interaction patterns, offer real-time support, and guide families toward more attuned responses. We also integrate one-on-one sessions with parents to provide coaching and tools tailored to their child’s needs, and can offer individual sessions for the child as appropriate.

Drawing from models like Child–Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), attachment-based theory, psychodynamic approaches, and play therapy, we work to reduce behavioral escalations, support emotional growth, and deepen connection. This work is especially helpful for families navigating emotional meltdowns, defiance, anxiety, or transitions such as divorce or a recent move.

Both Dr. Melony Cohen and Alexa Winer, AMFT, offer child–parent therapy. Alexa is trained and directly supervised by Dr. Cohen to ensure high-quality, developmentally sensitive care.

  • Teen therapy at ClearMind is built on curiosity, connection, and trust. We understand that adolescents crave autonomy while still needing support, and we create a space that allows them to show up authentically—whether they’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, misunderstood, or simply unsure of what they need.

We take time to build rapport and maintain a tone that’s warm, respectful, and often infused with humor. Sessions are collaborative and flexible, with space for teens to explore identity, emotions, relationships, and stressors at their own pace. We draw from emotion-focused and insight-based approaches, while integrating tools from DBT, mindfulness, and behavioral strategies as needed. For teens who enjoy creative work, sessions can also incorporate art, games, or other expressive modalities.

Importantly, therapy with teens at ClearMind is not overly serious, rigid, or adult-like. We recognize that in order for therapy to feel safe and effective, it must also feel real. That means laughing together, meeting teens where they are, and creating space that feels relaxed and welcoming—not like another thing on their to-do list. While the work can be deep and meaningful, it can also be playful, engaging, and free.

Parents play an essential role in this process. While teen sessions are kept confidential (with the exception of safety concerns), we regularly check in with caregivers to ensure alignment and shared understanding of goals.

Both Dr. Cohen and Alexa Winer, AMFT, see teens in therapy. Alexa is a strong fit for adolescents—her warmth, creativity, and thoughtful approach make her especially effective in helping teens feel seen and understood.

  • Behavioral therapy at ClearMind focuses on helping families navigate the daily challenges that can feel overwhelming—tantrums, bedtime struggles, defiance, transitions, and more. Our goal is to build sustainable strategies that bring more ease into your home while supporting your child’s growth and emotional development.

This work is highly collaborative and tailored to your family. Depending on your needs, sessions may involve individual work with your child, direct coaching with parents, or joint sessions. We don’t believe in quick fixes or generic sticker charts—we help you develop long-term systems that foster change, reduce reactivity, and create a shared sense of confidence and connection.

We often assign between-session tasks, ask parents to track patterns, and bring real-life examples into the room so we can work together on what’s actually happening in your home. For school-aged children and teens with ADHD or executive functioning challenges, we may also focus on building planning skills, routines, and supports that promote independence.

We’re here to do the hard work alongside you—whether that means weekly check-ins, family system mapping, or coordination with schools or outside providers. Therapy is tailored, actionable, and focused on long-term results.
